All students and faculty of this University believe”it’s never okay to humiliate or intimidate new members.” Ragging takes various forms, but typically involves physical risks or mental distress through, for example, humiliating, intimidating, or demeaning treatment. Ragging can cause significant harm to individuals, groups and the University. Raging is a violation of University’s code of conduct policy and also a crime under the Indian Penal Code.

According to the University Code of Conduct.

  • Ragging is an offence and is punishable.
  • Raging means an act that, as an explicit or implicit condition for initiation to, admission into, affiliation with, or continued membership in a group or organization.
  • Ragging is viewed by a reasonable person as endangering the physical health of an individual or as causing mental distress to an individual through, for example, humiliating, intimidating, or demeaning treatment.
  • Destroying or removal of common/ public or private property is would also be considered ragging.
  • Ragging involves forcing others fellow students to consume alcohol or drugs or any other substances that are deemed unhealthy under knowledge governing medicine and popular social understanding

Individuals found in violation may be subject to measuring varying from oral reprimand to suspension to dismissal.

If you have been ragged, have witnessed ragging, or suspect that someone you know has been ragged, you can report your observations confidentially to university officials.

University’s ability to investigate reports and enforce its policy depends on the accuracy and specificity of the information provided. You are encouraged to provide as much specific detail as possible so that appropriate action can be taken to address the reported behaviour/incident.
